About Me

I'm an award-winning journalist and researcher with nearly a decade of experience working in statewide and national newsrooms, where I've used data to dive into education equity and other systemic challenges impacting communities across the South.

I recently joined Tulane University as a senior data analyst for the Cowen Institute, a think tank dedicated to monitoring public education in New Orleans. Previously, I was an education and data reporter for AL.com's Education Lab, an initiative to bolster education coverage in Alabama. I joined AL.com in 2021 after completing a yearlong stint with the New York Times' Pulitzer-winning COVID-19 Tracking Project.

My journalism career started in high school, where I covered everything from drunk driving to school segregation for my school paper, the Northridge Reporter. I've also covered Memphis schools for Chalkbeat, worked on elections databases, and led a college newspaper through a pandemic, protests, admin changes and Machine politics. I hold a bachelor's degree in journalism and a master's degree in gender and race studies from The University of Alabama.
