About Me

I am an Alabama-based journalist with five years of experience working in statewide and national newsrooms, where I've used data to dive into topics like education equity, criminal justice and other systemic challenges and solutions impacting communities across the South.

I currently serve as AL.com's education and data reporter, leading the education team's K-12 coverage and assisting journalists across the newsroom with data analysis and visualization. I joined AL.com in 2021 after a yearlong stint with the New York Times' Pulitzer-winning COVID-19 Tracking Project, where I covered the pandemic's impact on incarcerated populations.

My journalism career started in high school, where I covered everything from drunk driving to bad school plays to school segregation for my school paper, the Northridge Reporter. I've also covered Memphis schools as a Chalkbeat intern, worked on elections databases, and led a college newspaper through a pandemic, protests, admin changes, a digital switch and Machine shenanigans. I live in Birmingham with my partner, Bret, and our spoiled pit mix, Albert.
